چکیده

Semiconductor lasers are the most widely used type of lasers. The very broad area of applications makes them almost indispensable in our every day life. We find them in CD and DVD players, in laser printers or in supermarkets. Semiconductor lasers can be very easy integrated in the optical systems and they have found numerous applications in science, technology, industry and medicine. We should also mention the enormous development of lasers in the telecommunication technology where they are used for data transmission in optical fibers.

Theoretical comparison analysis of long and short external cavity semiconductor laser

In this paper, considering optical feedback as an optical injection, and taking in to account round-trip time role in the external cavity, a standard small signal analysis is applied on laser rate equations. By considering the relaxation oscillation (f2) and external cavity frequencies (f) ratio for semiconductor laser, field amplitude response gain, optical phase and carrier number for long ex...

Investigating the Polarization Properties of Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Lasers

Vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) are a new type of semiconductor laser that have emerged as an economical alternative to conventional edge-emitting lasers. Anisotropies within these lasers, such as birefringence and dichroism, cause their optical output to favor one of two orthogonal linear polarizations; however, other optical outputs such as elliptical polarization and polariz...

Optical feedback self-mixing interferometry with a large feedback factor C: behavior studies

This paper studies the behavior of optical feedback self-mixing interferometric (OFSMI) systems, where the semiconductor lasers operate at a single mode (perturbed external cavity mode) with a large optical feedback factor C. Based on analysis of the spectral linewidth associated with all the possible lasing modes at different C values, a set of mode jumping rules are proposed following the min...

Chaos synchronization based on a continuous chaos control method in semiconductor lasers with optical feedback.

Chaos synchronization using a continuous chaos control method was studied in two identical chaotic laser systems consisting of semiconductor lasers and optical feedback from an external mirror. Numerical calculations for rate equations indicate that the stability of chaos synchronization depends significantly on the external mirror position. We performed a linear stability analysis for the rate...

Tunable Photonic Mircrowave Oscillator Self-locked by Polarization-rotated Optical Feedback (preprint)

Combining optical injection and polarization-rotated optical feedback in a semiconductor laser can induce selfreferenced periodic output that is widely tunable by simply varying the dc-bias points of the master and slave lasers. We observed feedback-induced reduction of the pulsation peak linewidth by more than two orders of magnitude relative to the injection-only case. The nonlinear dynamics ...
